Biograpny and Artist’s Statement - Chris C. Nolan
From as early as I can
remember, I’ve had an intense interest in the visual arts. My Aunt June was an amateur oil painter and
summers were spent near Cape Cod where I watched her paint seascapes. I thought of the creation of a painting as
something magical-and still do.
Many years later I graduated
with a degree in elementary education, but I never lost my enthusiasm for the
visual arts. While teaching I found it
very difficult to make time to paint.
Soon I was enjoying taking reference photos as much as the
painting. So started my obsession with
photography.
I left teaching to pursue
photography - landscape, close-up, floral, abstract and more recently, black
and white through the magic of digital processing. What I most enjoy about photography is
“seeing” something in a scene, sharing that vision with others and hearing,
“Gosh, I was there, but I never noticed that!”
I love making the everyday and ordinary become extraordinary.
I’ve also started designing
digital art pieces from the photography, creating new visions of scenes and
bringing me full circle back to fine art.
